Running Diablo (1) help

Post by capth4u »

Hello.. I am trying to run Diablo 1 on my mbp (2011) with lion... I am using cross over games 10.1.1 and even downloaded xquartz...Im am trying to run in a window which it does... the Blizzard logo rolls in and then thats all I can see... screen is black. when it was in full screen mode the screen would stay white. In both cases I can hear the music and clicking on the menu.. I just can't see it... any ideals? Thanks a million

Since you are using CrossOver, you will have to ask for assistance
from CodeWeavers on their support site. We cannot provide assistance
from the Wine site.

Does the same error occur with Wine as well as CrossOver?

Also, have you visited the Applications Database? I would suggest
doing so to see if there is a how-to for running this program.

When I used crossover games then go to configure/control panel/wine configuration .... there isn't an error... it launches game and shows the intro but when its time show the menu... its all black. What do you mean about visiting the applications database? Thanks for your help!!!

Either he means the codeweavers (since you paid for it?)
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibilit ... ?app_id=81

or the winehq one:

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... n&iId=3498

If you look under winehq some guy claims to have it working again as of
march 2011, with a hacked patch, Looking at it not sure why you can't just
slect GDI in the registry, but I don't have time....nvm just read what he
added in there. Yea first you want to test if changing the direct draw to
GDI works for you. Then try the hack.

wow...can they make it any more confusing? Why doesn't someone just make a simple fix? If it the GDI...then why not make something that turns it on.

1. Diablo 1 is very old. I know some people have had issues running it on
newer windows stuff. You may want to try a much older wine, not sure.

Also, to change the GDI, it's just a registry entry: ie gdireg.reg:

REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D]
"DirectDrawRenderer"="gdi"

then just WINEPREFIX="path" regedit gdireg.reg

But it doesn't always work for people, so if that doesn't work you may want
to try the wine hack for diablo 1 someone posted on the app page.
