Silverlight Wine 1.2

Post by banasw01 »

I am trying to install Silverlight so that I can use it with Firefox under Wine 1.2. I typed "wine Silverlight.exe" and this is what I got in the console when I push the install button:

fixme:clusapi:GetNodeClusterState ((null),0x32ec24) stub!
fixme:advapi:DecryptFileA "c:\\daecdcf75a005a724395f6\\" 00000000
fixme:advapi:LookupAccountNameW (null) L"wojciech" (nil) 0x33d960 (nil) 0x33d964 0x33d958 - stub
fixme:advapi:LookupAccountNameW (null) L"wojciech" 0x14f048 0x33d960 0x149038 0x33d964 0x33d958 - stub
fixme:msi:MsiSourceListGetInfoW Unhandled context 4
fixme:msi:MsiSourceListGetInfoW Unhandled context 4
fixme:msi:msi_unimplemented_action_stub RemoveExistingProducts -> 3 ignored L"Upgrade" table values
fixme:msi:msi_unimplemented_action_stub MsiUnpublishAssemblies -> 120 ignored L"MsiAssembly" table values

Looks like it will not install, is there a way to install it?

Is this all? There is nothing here that indicates that the install
failed and nothing here out of the ordinary for an msi install.

Do you know that Novell has a native equivalent (well, sort of) to Silverlight called Moonlight? Check it out:
http://www.mono-project.com/Moonlight

From what I understand it's a step behind Silverlight, but it's better than nothing.

Silverlight Wine 1.2

I did try playing a netflix movie with moonligh, but what I get is this:

Watching instantly on your computer

Our apologies — streaming is not supported for your operating system.

Note that your current Internet browser is fully compatible with adding titles to the Instant Queue for later watching on compatible devices.
Complete System Requirements

To watch instantly, you'll need a computer that meets the following minimum requirements:

* Windows
o Windows XP with Service Pack 2, Vista or Windows 7
o Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher; or Firefox 2 or higher
o 1.2 GHz processor
o 512 MB RAM
* Mac
o An Intel-based Mac with OS 10.4.8 or later
o Safari 3 or higher; or Firefox 2 or higher
o 1 GB RAM

That is why I wanted to run Firefox and Silverlight on Wine so that Netflix thinks I am running Windows.

Virtual Box

Post by banasw01 »

I installed Windows XP on Virtual Box http://www.virtualbox.org/ just like I saw in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuyPJFhVTxQ
However when I tried to install SilverLight inside of Virtual Box I got a message that my browser and operating system combination is not supported. Any ideas?

Ask on the Virtual Box forum. This has nothing to do with Wine.

I did this same thing last week and it worked fine. Make sure you are using
a modern and well-supported 32-bit browser. (Firefox 3.6, IE 8, etc).
Silverlight so that I can use it with Firefox under Wine 1.2
I think Silverlight in Wine has issues because of some .NET dependencies.
You'd think after all this time Netflix would get some dependable Linux
support. :/

I got it to work!

I got Silverlight to install and Netflix is working. I just had to run Windows Update until everything was up to date and then Silverlight installed. :)
Thank you!
