POP T2T cd protection doesn't work.

Post by ace.neerav »

I have a dvd version of prince of persia: the two thrones and i installed it perfectly on my mac ox x 10.6.4 using wine. when i launch the same the cd protection comes up and asks me to restart the system. I did that but every time i run the game it keeps on saying that. any fix?

Hi,

I already been to that place. Couldn't understand what I'm supposed to do from there. Mac OS X is also not listed there.

Read the "What does not" section of the most recent test report.

I used a crack to replace the original exe to avoid dvd detection and now it goes up to the point of asking me if i wanna start it in safe mode. i select yes and nothing happens. just the very first time a black window appeared and vanished.

It won't ever work on Wine. It uses driver that performs direct DVD access, as well as mucking around kernel.

With removed protection it should work ok-ish. Be ware that many "no-cd patches" contain all sorts of nasty stuff, like viruses and other malware.

i think macs are pretty immune to those. besides it would be contained within wine.

anyway, any workaround?

The problem is some of those trying to do things that will break Wine. Or make patched game unusable.

There are no workarounds, that's the whole point about this cd-protection. The only way to get these games to work is to remove this protection.

as i mentioned, i have already cracked the game. it should work fine. i get a prompt asking to run it in safe mode. i do and then there is a quick flash of a black window and finish.

When you start an app in wine, wine simulates a windows boot if
no other wine app is already running (and the last one closed
more than 10 seconds ago).

Are you absolutely sure that the crack you have applied is indeed a malwareless one? Some cracks don't work at all but have the sole intent of messing up your Windows system (which probably won't work in Wine, but still).

I'm NOT sure. Can you link me to one that is not malware?

Sorry, I don't know which ones are safe. You could try several different ones, and if it just gives you that same message I think it's safe to say the crack works, but the game still won't run for some reason probably beyond that.
