Running Freelancer at Wine.

Post by Basinator »

Hi there!

I am trying to get the game Freelancer running @ Wine.

APPDB-Article:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... n&iId=1871

What I have done:
whole .wine backupped

uninstalled wine completly
installed wine

inserted CD, ran setup.exe with wine

installed in default directory

started game

Then I clicked at Singleplayer and it loaded first, but then it began to struggle and stopped loading. It also seemed for me that the sound was repeating all the time. At least a bit...

I should have a pretty clean wine installation I guess, considering that I just reinstalled the software.

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) and the newest wine version from the repisiotiri..damn word, you know what I mean, lol.

Next step?

(Wine version is 1.2)

I didn't configure wine yet, so if you have a hint for me, go for it.

when you backed up .wine .. or reinstalled Wine ... did you make sure your new install and everything your doing created a brand new clean ~/.wine folder? could be problems if its using an old one.

I'd try 1.3.3 before worrying about 1.2 not working...

then you may want to post the full terminal output to somewhere like pastebin.com and link it back here so we can see if there may be a clue there.

Except POL is not supported here on this forum. So if you have any problems with it, don't ask here.

OK, I started the game with:
wine Freelancer.exe 2>&1 | tee ~/wine_freelancer.log

Text from console:
http://nopaste.info/03ae6ca7dc.html

(As you can see I was able to abort with ctrl + c at least)

I tried it out some months before and I recall that I stopped somewhere about my graphics card/driver. I use the radeon 9550.

If it helps and you want to test out by yourself, it might be worth to mention the trial (demo) version of the game:
http://download.cnet.com/Freelancer-Tri ... 26024.html

(The file size should be about 150 MB, if it isn't I need to provide you with another download source)

If you guys are able to get this game running with/for me I will donate 10 € (about 8 U$D if I am not mistaken) to the wine project.

Any clue what I shall do next?

I also tried to run multiplayer. but even with the fllistserver.com-fix (http://fllistserver.com/news/index.php/ ... istserver/) didn't help me, I wasn't able to see a single server.

Note: The official masterserver got shut down some years ago, so I have to try the community's ones which normally work.

I also tried with direct ip connect; I entered "wine Freelancer.exe -s193.192.58.150:2302", no luck....

I am using wine 1.3 now.
