Different font problem.

Post by Ebere »

I have spent a few days, doing searches here, and elsewhere for a solution to this problem, but all I have found is solutions to the opposite problem.

I guess most people who have problems with the 'system' font in their fake windows... have too big a font.

Mine is too small.

Here is a pic:

You can see in the pic, that the 'system' fonts in the fake windows window, are way too small.

Compare them to the size of the fonts in the background, which is the edit page right here.

I know how to adjust the 'resolution' in wine configuration.

If I raise the resolution, the only fonts affected are the ones inside of applications.

This actually screws up applications like the one you see in the pic, because the graphics pretty much stay the same size, but the bigger font pushes everything around in the different frames.

What I need to know is how to set the SYSTEM font in the windows, larger.

Ant ideas ?

Guess I should have checked for typos before I hit post. LOL

Anyway, looking at the pic in the OP, ALL the fonts appear larger than they really are, on my screen.

On my screen, the fonts in the 'windows' window are almost too small to see.

So don't think the fonts are actually ok, just because they look ok in the pic.

Also, don't like the 'choppy' look of the fonts.

Code: Select all

What version of Wine? Since 1.2-rc2, Wine uses the desktop settings for font smoothing. If you're not using the latest development release (currently 1.2-rc5), upgrade.

I'm using 1.2-rc4.

I upgraded just three days ago, and that is the version I have. Maybe my upgrader isn't working ?

The fonts on the desktop are fine. Not all choppy looking like in the wine-dow.

I'll try the upgrade thing again.

Thank you.

I'm going to try this again.

I am using 1.2-rc6

I still have the same problem.

In this pic, please note the big difference between the window title font size, and the fonts directly below that in the toolbar. ( File Utility Option Etc...)

This may look fine and readable on your screen. But on my screen, I can just barely make out what is there. The window titlebar font size is pretty much the smallest font size I can read. The smaller toolbar font is just too small for me to read.

I have tried changing the resolution in wine cfg. No difference. (Please note the fonts below the toolbar. The ones that say "character/item view" and "item property view" are the same size as the toolbar above. But below those, in the tabs, and in the location box, the fonts are larger. THOSE fonts are what get adjusted when I adjust the 'resolution' in wine cfg. I can make those any size I want, by changing the resolution. But those toolbar fonts always remain small, no matter what.)

I have tried changing the resoultion for the system overall, in the control center, monitor menu. No change. (No matter what resolution I set the screen to, the fonts always adjust to stay tiny.)

I have tried changing the system fixed width font, in control center appearances. No difference.

I need to know how I can change the "System" font, in the wine windows. The font that renders those toolbars. (This is just one windows app. It is the same way for all windows apps.)

Please.

Changing the resolution in winecfg is not going to solve your problem.
There is a registry setting that covers the font size for toolbars, but
I cannot remember what it is.

is this a Linux only thing... or should it work on Mac OS X... cuz it doesn't seem to work at all for me, I have to turn on font smoothing in the registry.

I don't think it is even a linux only thing.

I have font smoothing turned on in the latest linux mint, and I have the latest wine.

But I had to turn on font smoothing in the registry, just as you did, to get the fonts smoothed out in 'wine'dows.
