okay so if i have an old version how do i update to the newest?

If you are using a linux distribution that has a package manager
(Synaptic in Ubuntu, etc.) you can use that to do a search for WINE and
see if the repository has a newer version available than the one you are
currently using. If your distribution doesn't have something like that
or doesn't offer the version you want you can download the source code
for the correct version from WINEHQ and build it yourself. Another
option is to see if your distro has a "testing" repository (if it has
them) that you can enable and search there for a newer version.
