Installing Final Fantasy XI on Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix

Post by doktabl4ck »

Hello Wine Forum Members,

This is my first post and I am looking forward to many more. My first initial question is: Is it possible to run FFXI on Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix? I've seen some earlier posts about running FFXI on 10.04, but I haven't found anything where someone would be trying on something much smaller. I am new with ubuntu and Wine. So if this is possible is there some kind of guide I can use to walk me through the wine configuration, and setup of everything that I will need. Help would me much appreciated as it would save me about $600 from purchasing a full laptop/notebook. Thank you! :D

When in doubt, try it, I guess! Unless you don't have one to test it on.

I'm not sure on the specs that FFXI requires, but you have to keep in account that your video card will usually need to be at least a few years newer than the software it was written for. Experiences may differ depending on the hardware support of your graphics driver, mostly (ie. if it will work well with 3D in Linux; Intel kind of has a bad track record there). I could run some 3D games on my Eee 701 with integrated Intel chipset just fine, and others would barely work at all.
