Neither. Both are commercial products. If you are looking for commercial type support, CrossOver is the product that I use.

If you are looking for stability, with periodic updates, again, CrossOver is the product I recommend.

Both might have their uses for specific applications... Have a look at
the list of supported application for al of them...

You probably want to try Wine on its own first, then something like
PlayOnLinux and then one of the others, if your application is
specifically supported... (Quite a few CrossOver developers work on
Wine and they sponsor the hosting of the website, etc.)

If you use anything other than plain Wine, you would need to take into
account that you won't be helped if you ask on this forum. (The
product's own forums should be used...)

For CrossOver, a list of supported applications can be found here:
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name

I you want to run several, potentially unsupported applications, Wine
gets updated the quickest, but things occasionally stop working,
etc...

Hi Gert
thank you for the update. I have tried installing wine and did get installed ok and tried Quicken 2010 deluxe and it got installed ok then got the no com error and found help on the site but some of the commands to get the gehco going did not seem to work. also the folders etc where things reside I am not the sharpest on where and how they fit in.
Wine and quicken registration is still a big problem and they don't seem to make it easy to report it so I have found.
I did get one of my banks to download and it was complete but then when you try to add another bank you get the no com error.
thanks for the tip I will keep trying to resolve the no com error.
Larry.

Short version: Most of Wine's applications end up under ~/.wine (where
~ is your home directory). Under Unix-like operating system, filenames
starting with dots are hidden. You should install the application into
Wine and try to read at least the FAQ... http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ

Have a look at http://wiki.winehq.org/Gecko and
http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks (My guess is that the problem is
Winetricks...)

I'm not sure if you looked at the AppDb page for possible solutions?
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=18171

There might be some other tricks to get it working (have a look at the
FAQ on how to post a debug log...) (Some other people around here are
better at reading Wine logs than me...) (Some of the alternative
frontends might have automated installing workarounds (in some cases
installing more than what is needed and breaking other applications as
a result, which is the main reason why other front ends aren't easily
supportable here))

If you are looking for information on Bordeaux/Crossover I've written a couple of reviews on each of these

Bordeaux 2.0.4 Review
CXGames 9.0 Review

Honestly, I love the commercial Wine projects. They rid you of so many headaches in the long run IMO...

Actually, in the bordeaux review, you say cedega is basically dead, while a
public beta version has apparently been released at start of May 2010.

Maybe it's time to review your review ;)

I will be very bunt. User any of those front ends don't come to winehq or forum and expect support.

We must know how wine has been configured to be able to debug what in heck is going wrong at times.

Crossover does have there own official support systems. I don't know how good Bordeaux support is.

Basically it not a question really to ask us. We don't do support for product. If product does not give good support is a paper weight.
