Post by Pauls74462 »

Is there a WINE program to allow a MAC OX 9 program to run on MAC OS X

I really do not want upgrade PhotoShop from OS 9 to OS X

This is not the purpose of wine.

Paul:

MacOSX has the ability to run certain Mac Classic programs. If your program will NOT run on MacOSX, then you can either abandon it, not upgrade or buy the upgraded version. Wine's purpose is to allow the operation of Windows(TM) programs on various Linux/UNIX platforms. In this case, it appears you MUST buy the MacOSX upgrade for Photoshop or switch to a Windows version. Please examine the entries in Wine's Application Database before making this decision.

What would be the differences in running a MAC OX 9 program on MAC OS X or running a MAC OX 9 program on a Windows system?

The non compatibility issue is a lame way to get money for an upgrade!

non-compatibility wasn't there for getting money for an upgrade. Through 10.3 there was a classic mode that ran OS9 in a virtual machine to run OS9 apps, all built in... they finally killed it off since OS9 is long dead. Its not compatibile because OSX is a whole new OS not even related to OS9 at all... they are almost as different to each-other as Windows and OSX is right now. OS9 had way too many issues that would never have gotten fixed right, and they needed a whole new base OS to go off of, so they did.

Either way, you're only going to run OS9 apps through an OS9 emulator, no matter what platform your on. No one I know of has ever made a Wine type program for running OS9 apps... basically because there is no need to, its a useless dead old OS. You should replace any apps you use that are OS9 right away. Most of the common OS9 apps that was used have Open Source programs that can replace them that are far better.

Also because it will not work in Intel Macs (OS 9 is PowerPC-only) and
was dropped from Leopard (IIRC).

The only choice for the OP is getting SheepShaver (a Mac OS 9 emulator)
to work, but last time I tried to it was a quest which didn't end very well.
