Borderlands - black screen

Post by zainin »

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 64bit and Wine 1.1.32.
I have installed d3dx9 and vcrun2005 by winetricks. I want to run the game from Windows installation. Everything seems to be OK in terminal, but I get only sound and black screen with green "things" in place of menus.
I've tried every solution from AppDB but it doesn't work.
Any ideas?

Install Borderlands to Wine. This program may not be runable from a
Windows installation to a Windows drive.

Well, I did that in the first place. Now I want to run it from Windows installation only because it works on Win.

When i tried it i didn't have to install what you mentionned and it worked
out of the box.
Try to install it like you would on Windows in a new Wine prefix.

If it still doesn't work, try to run Wine in desktop mode to see if the game
works, however mouse warping will not work in windowed mode, but it's only
to test!

I installed it because it won't work out of the box for me, unfortunately.
When I was installing it for the first time I first completely removed Wine, so reinstalling in a new prefix is pointless. I guess so.

I already tried to run Wine both in normal and desktop mode - effect is the same.

What is the problem?

What Linux distribution are you running?

Video card and drivers?

What may work for one may not just because you are using a different
Linux distribution and/or video card.

We can't help you with the information you've given.
When you try to install or run it out-of-the-box do you get any errors? What
is the terminal output (by running in terminal)?

Well... I've upgraded video card drivers and now it works. I've been trying to avoid drivers update, because it always ended up very bad for me.
Anyway, thanks for your help.
