Wine, Steam, And Fedora

Post by PwnerOfPimp »

Recently I have come to love the Windows 7 RC1. Its my favorite operating system besides fedora. Anyway, I have been getting bored with Windows lately. I want to be able to play my Steam games(Team Fortress 2, Insurgency, Day of Defeat etc.) using Wine. My real question is, does Wine support direct x 10? I would love to slip away from Windows at the moment. And if it does support it, should I use it on Fedora 11 or OS X(Snow Leopard)?

No, or at least not to an usable degree...

AFAIK, OpenGL under OS X is not as good as Linux.... (It might differ
for things like ATI/Intel cards, where the Linux drivers suck...)

you should look in the appdb and see what exact games/programs run and how well they run and how to get them to run.

Mac OS X actually has no problems with Wine or OpenGL... Wine only runs better on Linux because Apple doesn't use X11 as its main window system like Linux, and Wine is made for X11. The X11 (Xquartz) made to run on top of Mac OS X is seriously lacking some features that would make it very good...

If you really want to use Wine based things on Mac OS X to its fullest, its best to buy Crossover Games, as their built in custom made X11 is MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH better for Wine than Xquartz.

Many directX games run... The start of a DirectX 10 implementation exist...

Check the AppDb to see how well your game works....

For various reasons, you can expect significantly better results with
nVidia cards that other cards.
