WinVICE

Post by zacskou »

Hi!

I've read on the bugzilla, that the black screen bug with winvice was closed because of duplication of a fixed bug, but when i try to use it, the screen still goes black. I'm using Wine 1.1.26 with Ubuntu 8.04 and it is WinVice 2.1

The closed bugzilla topic: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5896
and the topic wich states this is fixed: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2398

Sorry for bad english.

When does this exactly happen? I just ran WinVice 2.1 (wine xvic.exe) and I've had no blackscreen so far...
(I have other menu display and blinking-cursor-on-top-of-everything display problems)

What video card and drivers? What window manager? Have you disabled compiz/3d desktop affects?

Immediately, when i start the program. It is x64.exe.

ATI Radon X800XT with the official ATI driver - version 9.3, the latest, wich supports my card, i think.
i downloaded from ati.amd.com and generated the custom packages.
And KDE 3.5.10.
Compiz and every effect is disabled.

64-bit support is _very_ alpha...and unless you compiled wine
yourself, disabled.

x64.exe is for Commodore 64 emulator and not for 64 bit. WinVice is 32 bit.

I mean, WinVice is an emulator package with several Commodore emulators (xvic, x64, x128, xplus4, etc)
Sorry for doubling.

I cannot give a crashlog, since WinVice is running without problems, just blacks out the screen.
But here is the output, if i run it from terminal.

Code: Select all

fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0xb6f7d8,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0xb6f278,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_WaitForVerticalBlank (0x13fbf20)->(1,(nil)): Stub
fixme:dsalsa:IDsDriverBufferImpl_SetVolumePan (0xd85c88,0xd85c10): stub
I'll provide some screenshots later.

I don't get either the black background with x64.exe or the graphical corruption with xvic.exe, but my graphics card is nVidia.

Have you tried running in a virtual desktop? (Check "emulate a virtual desktop" on the graphics tab in winecfg.)

I tried it, it is the same, the only difference is, that only the virtual desktop will be black, not the whole.

Zacskou:

Dimesio pointed out something that I have to ask: What type of video
card are you using? What type of video drivers are installed,
proprietary or open-source? What Operating System are you trying to get
the emulators running with (Linux distro and version)? I've deleted
most of the messages in this thread.

I answered those questions, i don't get, what do you mean by deleted the messages. But anyway:
- Ubuntu 8.04
- ATI X800XT
- Official driver 9.3 from ati.amd.com
- Wine 1.1.26

This problem may be due to the AMD drivers. Can you try switching to
the Open Source drivers for your video card?

Have you tried the linux version of vice? It's been years since I used
vice but I see that vice-2.1 is in my distro.

Yes i've tried the Linux version.
In Ubuntu 8.04 it is Vice 1.22. Actually i'm using that now.
I've tried the 2.01 too, but could not compiled properly. It worked, but had a lot of uncomfortable issues, wiches are probably configurable, but i'm not a professonal, just an average Linux user, so after a few try, i just installed vice 1.22 from the repo.
The most uncomfortable thing was the joystick configuring wich is totally missed from it. Maybe it was the fault of the xaw frontend, i do not know. Can i optimize it to use the libraries of KDE 3.5?
But if you has the 2.1 and you are using a Debian based Linux, can you send me the .deb file please? Or can you tell me, where can i download it?
I've searched in google, but no result, and tried to check packages.ubuntu.com, but the page never comes in.
