Knights of the Old Republic Issue

Post by TWIXMIX »

I can't seem to get this game to work. It has been installed/updated fine, but every time I try to run it, there is an issue. It almost seems as if it keeps trying to change resolution, never actually becoming full screen and playable.

Does anyone have a remedy to this issue?

Thanks..

Well, It seems as if I can run it now, I just had to disable movies. Although, now I have another issue. Textures to not seem to be showing up. All I can see are the gray models and environments. Also, there is no text, just colored blocks.

Check the AppDB:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... n&iId=1980

What version of wine?

I'm using the newest version that just came out. I also had the same problem with the previous version. I checked the AppDB, yet cannot seem to find a fix.

I'm also having this problem.
I enabled 'emulate virtual desktop' to get it to run, and now it does, but
There are no textures, just the white/grey models.
I'm using 0.9.59, and all the tests in AppDB are version 0.9.57 or earlier.
I didn't have any problems with the movies.

I had to disable movies in order to get it to even run. They must have screwed it up somewhere with one of the wine updates.

Since the last working version listed in the appdb is 0.9.57, it may be beneficial to download wine 0.9.58 and wine 0.9.57 and see how the game works with either of those. If it works with an earlier version of wine, you could run a regression test to find the root cause.

See this link for regression testing: http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting

It's a pretty painless, though slightly time consuming, process.

I Tried Installing earlier versions of wine from
http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/archive/index.html
Including 0.9.56 0.9.57 and These had the same problem for me.
The Game was original installed under windows, and so I tried to install it under wine. And it died:

You using ntfs partition with ntfs-3g driver. It does not implement this part. Please install all programs under Wine's "fake c:".

I installed it on my drive shared between ubuntu and windows, it's ext3
And I still haven't been able to get the installer to start from the cd.
Will try suggestion from AppDB just added and install on an earlier version of wine, Though I'm installing from a dvd, not a set of cds.

I reinstalled wine version 0.9.57, an clean out my .wine folder and reset the c drive to the fake cdrive, and the installer works fine now. However the Textures are still grey. Even under 0.9.57 which all the tests in AppDB say is working fine.

I get it to work just fine, but can only get sound on the main menu page. Once I get into the game, the sound is gone. I have 1.0.1.

Funny thing is the game started out the first time working just fine. Went and checked the audio settings in wineconfig...didn't even change anything, and it stopped working. Now it's just done it again. Tweaked the settings, had the sound in the game working, and then went back to check what I had tweaked, again not changing anything, so I could post it back here and the sound wasn't working again the next time I went into the game.

Remove pulseaudio, upgrade to 1.1.17.
