How to find a summit??

Post by Beartooth »

I'm running Garmin MapSource and TopoUS2008 under Wine on Fedora
10 Linux. I want to find the highest point on the highway from my house
to my in-laws', a couple hundred miles away.

The routing function insists on straight lines some times, and
follows roads other times -- regardless how I edit my preferences. How do
I make it go the way I want?

Once I do get it to do that, and then tell it to show the
profile, how do I get it to show me the various peaks *on* the *map*??

And you asking this here why? Should your ask garmin how to use their software?

Because everything involving Wine and this software has always
been unrecognizably different from the same under any form of MegaSleaze.

I suspect, in particular, that the failure to follow my choice
under preferences as to road, trail, or geodesic is an artifact of Wine.

As Niven & Pournelle would say, that turns out not to be the
case; MapSource and TopoUS2008 work together, but in a way I only thought
of (only even noticed) this morning -- which has nothing to do with Wine
or linux. My apologies to the list!
