Would like to run PC Study Bible

Post by brotherbrian »

Would like to run PC Study Bible ver. 2 from BibleSoft on Linux. Research has led me to WINE. I am new to Linux, have Mandriva 2009 installed. I just DL'ed WINE for Mandriva 2009, and got it going. I tried to install PC Study bible from CD, no dice. I then copied the entire contents of PC Study Bible folder from a windows computer to flash drive and copied it to Linux computer. Still won't run. No, I do not have Windows installed on this machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. THis is very specifically for a small Bible study group, all we need is a computer with some good software and resources on it. PCStudy bible fits the bill. Or, if there are any high end Open Source Bible programs out there, but I am looking for something with actual Greek/Hebrew interlinear text and an Englishman's concordance.

But just getting the PC Study Bible running would be first choice. Thank you in advance,

Brian

What happens when you try to run this program from a terminal window?

Is there a trial or demo version of this program available?

Just as a side note, I got e-Sword to work, less the graphical portion, by using Winetricks to add msls31 and riched20.

do a search for free Linux bible software you will see there is a wide range of compatible bible software that are built on Linux. You could even install bible pro - through wine but you need to get net 2. :P

Did you get Bible Pro to work on your system? I could not get it to
work here.

Did you update the Applications Database entry with what you did to get
it to run?

You might like to try BibleTime from http://www.bibletime.info/ which runs on Linux directly. It has Greek and Hebrew support (including Strong's numbering in both)

Cheers

Thank you for the suggestion, however can this program also read the
files used by PC Study Bible?

This may be why the OP wanted to use this program.

Of course, BibleTime is a completely different solution from PC Study Bible (and, of course it does not need Wine :( ). But BibleTime has about 40 different English language Bible versions which can be downloaded, plus dozens of books, commentaries, lexica (in countless languages). I use the English and German stuff. Which of those are also used by PC Study Bible? I personally can't say, since I don't know PC Study Bible, but a quick check at the URL would reveal.
