Font error in version 1.1.17

Font error in version 1.1.17

I recently got Ubuntu 8.10 for my Compaq Presario v6000 and I got wine, then I tried to install Steam, but there was NO text showing in the installer for Steam.
So, I went to the wine config menu, but the same problem was there, too.
I'm still very new to linux...

Any help would be appreciated..

If you're using the legacy nVidia driver, it's a known bug in the driver. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16146
