Wine v10.0 Indeo Codec Solved

Post by roundtree »

Hello,

I'm a newcomer to WineHQ forums. This is my first post ever. I came here to offer some help for anyone looking to use Indeo video codec to play games on Wine such as Klingon: Honor Guard and Zwei: The Arges Adventure. I have a link to the solution I will post if anyone wants it, but before I post it, I really need to ask the question: Is this anything that anyone actually cares about and wishes their Wine would do?

A little bit about myself: I run a youtube channel about Linux and games, mostly Doom and emulators, and running games through Wine. I've poured my blood, sweat, tears, and soul into this channel for about 4 years now, and I'm ready to give up. I should have never looked at the metrics, but now its time to face reality. I'm heavily demotivated and feeling like most people don't care about Linux. This is why I need to know if anyone would actually care about this information. I've never made a penny for all this work I've done and problems I've solved.

I don't want anything in return, but if anyone here cares about the Indeo codec working in Wine, I will post the link, but only if someone replies.

Thank you

On a side note, I'm sorry for what I said about Linux. I know there are plenty of people who use it, but I have only met 1 person in 20 years personally who uses it. I started using OpenSUSE 20 years ago when I was taking a class on DOS/Linux commandline and fell in love with Linux. Then I migrated to Ubuntu and eventually Linux Mint. Now I use Linux Mint on a daily basis and probably use Windows once a week or less. Everyone I currently know as family or friends uses Windows or Macintosh. I've just got all my good software on Linux now, so that is where I'm comfortable.

Solution already posted. I typed out a perfectly working solution yesterday. Unfortunately, it was deleted by the moderators here who claimed it had links to pirated content, because I did not have the right to distribute the ir50_32.dll file. I'm not going to sit here and argue that point (I'm trusting they probably know better), but I certainly don't have the time or energy to type all that out again. You may try searching for my youtube video. I did look up the file on Library of Congress website, and it belonged to Ligos Corporation, which does not have a website anymore. I believe this corporation to be now defunct. As far as finding a legitimate distribution source for this file, it is all over the internet, but I don't know who has a legal right to distribute the exact version of the file that I uploaded. Intel may be a legit source for the file, but I have not found anything yet. If I find a legit source, I will post it then.

I have to agree with the moderator here. I'm quoting this from the Wayback Machine, because all original links regarding Ligos are now dead: "The codec remains the intellectual property of Ligos, and the Indeo Video logo is trademarked. Any redistribution of any version the Indeo codec or software must include the Indeo Software License Agreement from Ligos or Intel Corporation, and be supported by a signed agreement between the licensor and licensee."

To the moderator:

I just want to say I have searched every possible solution on the internet, including K-Lite codec pack, but its a no-go. I was not able to find a legit source for the Indeo codec file. As far as the link, I understand you did what you had to do. But I have searched every possible website I can find and cannot find the exact same codec. I suspect that it is a very old version, not available anymore that was possibly from an old Windows 95 game install. I'm going to give up the search here and now. If you wish to delete this thread, that is alright with me. I'm not going to continue to search for this anymore. Thank for at least letting me try, and you have a good one. Also sorry for any trouble. It was never my intention.
