WINE internet access only works in root

Post by zchrisw »

I found a lot of posts about not getting internet access in WINE, but, none I could see with an actual solution (web search was useless as well). The most recent one was about a year ago and it is incorrectly marked as SOLVED as it says to use root which I had already figured out on my own. That is not a solution, that is a workaround. An actual solution would work in a non-root userid.

I've got wine-8.0 in 64-bit Debian 12. I am running DMT.exe (DMT DSL-Modem Tool v9.01 2007.06.01 06:19:21 - 32-bit app).

"wine ping" also fails if it's not done from root.

So, does anyone have an actual explanation for what's going on and an actual solution?
