After installing Age of Empires III: The Complete Collection, which in turn, was after I updated the Wine Development version to Release Candidate 2 one day, the audio was skipping and going so fast, some unit speech did not have a chance to finish.
I have encountered this in other versions, but before installing RC2, I was able to remedy this by:
- installing gir1.2-gst-plugins-base-1.0:i386, gstreamer1.0-gl:i386, gstreamer1.0-libav:i386, gstreamer1.0-plugins-base:i386, and gstreamer1.0-plugins-good:i386 through APT
- installed the l3codecx class library through winetricks
And it always installed fine before the second Release Candidate.

I've been messing with the compatibility settings again, and it looks like changing it to Windows XP fixes things a little.
Now the last word of each dialogue skips instead of the entire audio.
I can't for the life of me remember what it was that I did last time, but it does seem to fix a few things.
