I'm trying to get to the root of a problem with installing F.E.A.R. 1 using retail CDs. I'm probably running into the same issue as the user here:

However I am trying to dig deeper to get to the cause of the program not running. When running FEAR.exe after installation it displays an error dialog box stating that there was no disc found. However, when trying to use strace the program segfaults, and when using winedbg it hangs. I have tried mounting the CD image and symlinking several drive letters to it. At this point I'm at a roadblock; I don't know what else to try.
I am using wine 8.0~repack-4, distributed with Debian bookworm.
