Issues with getting wow to run correctly...

Post by robert98374 »

- Name of the Distribution: Ubuntu 8.10
- Your desktop Gnome

what wow looks like on the log on screen,
Image

And when i am at that screen every thing moves really slow, like you can see in the screen shot that my pointer in the game is towards the middle of the screen while the pointer in Ubuntu is at the top going to be clicking the X.

I have gone through the troubleshooting guide at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WorldofWarcraft

Not sure what else i need to do to get it running...

Video Card-Nvidia Gforce 8600 GT 512mb
Drivers- The drivers that i have installed are the default drivers that Ubuntu installed.

When i try WoW in openGL mode there isnt even a screen. The WoW error comes up, saying that WoW has crashed..

These won't work. You need NVidia's own drivers not open source POS that doesn't work.

ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/180.29/

You'll want pkg1.

WOW WTF file that worked for me

Post by joegeek »

Hello, Might be the Config.wtf

I have great frame rate and it's running great under Ubuntu 8.10 in a Duel Vista boot setup after I cut and paste of WTF setup

I am kind of a nub, but once I installed the NVidia driver package and Wine via the Snaptic Package manager, I then copied all my wow folder from my Windows partition using the Wine Browser and changed the content of the C:/program Files/World of Warcraft/WTF/Config.wtf file. I copied the contents of a WTF file from another user who was successful running WOW, using a text editor.

The only problem is my mouse buttons don't release on autorun causing me to run past, into, and off stuff/places - ouch.

I've enclosed my Config.wtf contents below, hope it helps; Note the SET gxResolution is set for a wide screen laptop 1440x900 - reg screen is 1024x768 I think
