How do I "update" Wine from the official Ubuntu version to the Wine Ubuntu version?

Post by ArchangelAbel »

Hello there. I decided to recently give Linux a honest try for my main OS this week.

I was able to sucessfully use Wine for a game, but I have recently tried to use Wine for a Windows program called Firecast (it is not in the database - https://firecast.app/en_us/ ). The program has some 3D optional components but is mostly, and heavily, text-based.

For some reason it is very laggy. I'm on the process of troubleshooting this. I read the FAQ and had many ideas on things to try. Amongst them, it seemed sensible to first get the Wine Ubuntu branch (which I believe to be on 8.8) rather than the Ubuntu-made branch, since it is still on 6.x.

Is there a way to update from the "store" version to the "Wine" version without having to uninstall my current Wine? And will I lose my data if I do so without a backup?

OS: Pop! LTS 22.04

Someone told me I can just download the new version and that it would override my existent one since the branches are different :) Solved
