Hi all...I've played around and gotten dosbox for some old, old dos based games but wanted to move onto bigger games like C&C3:KW, WOW, BF:2142, FEAR, you name it.
Now, I've gotten Wine 1.1.8 installed and I ran into a few glitches, but those got fixed pretty fast. The only last problem (I think) is dealing will be listed below and I have no idea what to do. The game in test is C&C3:KW.
System setup:
AMD 64-bit 3000+ (2ghz not OC'd)
2gb PC3200 Crucial DDR
80gb SATA Western Digital
ATI X800 with the latest Ubuntu 8.10 driver
Ubuntu 8.10 with everything that could be updated from Synaptec updated
1. Installed C&C3:TW no problems. (Tiberium Wars)
2. Installed C&C3:KW no problems right afterwards. (Kane's Wrath)
3. Patched C&C3:TW to latest.
4. Patched C&C3:KW to latest.
5. Ran '/usr/local/bin/wine /media/cdrom0/autorun.exe'
Now this is where it gets weird, the menu pops and asks me if I want to play, check for updates, etc...I check for updates, and it comes back like normal, all works like it should. I go to play, the pic of C&C3:KW in all red pops up like normal...then after about 15 seconds, it goes back to the regular previous menu. Prior to this, if I ran wine with the installation on the HD, the pic would be on-screen for all of 3 seconds and go away and I'm looking at a terminal prompt.
I've checked everything I can online and in documentation but I'm at a loss here. I'm fairly sure that once this gets fixed, I won't have any problems with other games. Hope someone knows what to do and I hope to know more so I can contribute too!
Greetings all...and a problem
The AppDB has a fairly detailed howto for this game: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... n&iId=7440
It does appear that there are problems with this game in 1.1.8, as the most recent test rates it garbage, and there is a new bug report: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16016
You might want to try 1.1.7.
