Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 5.7 both run very well for me on Ubuntu 14.04 thanks to the and the latter's nearly idiot-proof (me being the idiot) installation proceedures. I noticed that Google has just released a bunch of new absolutely free plugins for PS and LR. They seem to come in the form of a 400MB .exe file.
Is there any chance at all that these plugins can be added to Photoshop and/or Lightroom running under Wine and installed using PlayOnLinux without a lot of tinkering, etc?
I think PlayOnLinux and Wine create a seperate virtual drive for each application you install. So I guess these plugins would have to be installed to the preexisting drives already in use for LR and PS?
Is this something that can be casually attempted, or is it a project for someone with a more through understanding of Wine and the other software involved?
May new plugins for Photoshop and Lightroom work in Wine?
Re: May new plugins for Photoshop and Lightroom work in Wine
First, POL is not supported here; this forum is for plain Wine only.
Plain Wine does not create separate wineprefixes for every application by itself; you would have to specify that. So theoretically, you should be able to install the plugins to your existing install of Photoshop and Lightroom the same way you would on Windows, presumably by running those .exe files. Of course, there could be bugs in Wine preventing it from working properly; the only way to find out is to try it. If it doesn't work in a clean wineprefix using the latest development release of plain Wine, that would be a bug.
