difference between version 1.7.35 and newer versions

I've bee trying to find out what the differences are with he newer versions of wine and ver 1.7.35. I run only a couple of programs using wine, and one of them refuses to run on anything newer then 1.7.35. Does anyone know what needs to be added or turned on to make the newer versions work? I'm using the WT Library program and Linux Min 17.3 and Ubuntu 14.04

What "newer versions" have you tried? If you haven't tested the latest development release, try that. If the problem is still present in 1.9.5, run a regression test and file a bug. https://wiki.winehq.org/Regression_Testing

I've tried 1.7.5 up to 1.9.5, now I will learn how to do a regression....any help...please

Believe it or not but your reply got me questioning how I was installing the wine updates. What i had not been doing was compleatly removing the old versions before trying to install the new ones. Once I did this and installing from the ppa and not synaptic, it all worked. The only thing I had to install with synaptic was winetricks to install the corefonts needed.
