Can't find WINE 1.8.1 download for Ubuntu 14.04

where there is a link:

which is where I started! I'm going round in circles.

Where do I download WINE 1.8.1 download for Ubuntu 14.04?

WineHQ only packages the development and staging releases, not the stable. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40197

The old Ubuntu PPA seems to have 1.8 packages, but not 1.8.1. https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+arc ... es_filter=

You could try searching Launchpad. There may be someone else who has built and published 1.8.1 packages. Just keep in mind that only WineHQ packages are supported here.

You could also simply install the WineHQ development package. In most cases it will work better for most things than stable anyway.
