I try to use N1MM+ in Ubuntu under Wine. The programme has been successfully installed and it runs except I can not choose serial ports. I added serial ports to the group and I can see them in the list in the Terminal window- ll command. I have to say that I can normally run N1MM Classic on the same computer.
I use Ubuntu 14.04LTS and Wine 1.8.
I got answer from Larry, K8UT:
I tried to modify n1mm logger.ini file but there were no progress at all. Many things changed when we migrated from N1MMclassic to N1MMplus, including the use of Visual Studio .NET and its new com library for serial port operation.
BUT – going out on a limb here – I do not think that the .NET library is inherently incompatible with WINE on Ubuntu. Instead, I suspect the following is happening:
One of the changes from Classic to Plus was a modification in the >Config dialog port selection. We changed from a “you tell me the serial port number and then I’ll check to see it it works” (Classic) to “I’ll list the available serial ports and you select one” (Plus). What I suspect is happening is that the serial port discovery mechanism (Device Manager) calls are NOT working, and thus you do not see a list of available com ports from which you can choose. But I think you can still connect to those com ports.
BUT – if you could cheat – by manually editing the INI file and telling N1MM the port number in the section labeled [Port1], it just might work on WINE.
Does anyone have any idea how to solve that problem?
