Connect Mac File Types or File Suffix with an App

Post by neal mibe »

Hello,

I'm new in the forum, so maybe my questions are in a wrong place or to complex. I've two questions related to using Wine on Mac.

1. I would like to connect a file suffix like doc oder docx with an specific program.
2. The second question needs some explanation:

a) I found out, that by using wine explorer and clicking on a mac app (in the app folder) most mac apps can be started. So a mac program can be started out of a wine environment.
b) Now going back to my first question: I would like to start a related mac app via clicking on a file with a related suffix. An example would be, to start MS Office via clicking on a .docx file.

The reason for this question is, that wine gives me the possibility to use an old and very complex filemaker database. Within this database it is possible to modify files like docs, svg etc. Normally filemaker ist also able to lauch the related app. So it would be great, if I could launch a file within the wine/Windows version of filemaker and wine would start the related mac app.

This connection works already with URLs. Launching an URL with a vine / filemaker environment launched chrome oder safari. A similar connection for a docx / doc file would be great.

Thanks in advance for some suggestions.

With regards,

Neal
