1.8?

Hi,
Just curious why next release is 1.8 vs 1.7.56. Is 1.7.55 considered the stable release now? Are there major changes calling for a point increase? Or did someone just decide it was time?

Not being critical...just curious. Various changelogs/news don't make the reason clear. I did read one thing that suggested 1.8 is going to be the next stable release.

1.8 will be the next stable release. The versions you are seeing now are release candidates: 1.8-rc1, 1.8-rc2, etc. As to why now, the decision was made at Wineconf 2015 to change to a time-based stable release cycle of once a year in the fall.
