Kudos 2

This game uses only DirectX 7 features, so it should be fully compatible with WINE.

I've gotten it to install and run under Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex beta, WINE version 1.1.6. (The game has an irritating bug with my chipset that requires me to change the resolution before starting; this is not WINE's fault.) However, once I click on the Begin New Game button, the textures go all weird; many disappear entirely, some get skewed and distorted, and occasionally the game will display its character graphics file in the center of the screen, rather than putting the individual characters in their appropriate places.

My video card is an Intel 915GM integrated graphics chipset.

What might be the cause of this problem?

The video card. I could be wrong, but wine usually does not like integrated graphics. It could also be wine just doesn't like it. Someone who has a Nvidia card could download the demo and test it...if it runs there, it's your card. If it doesn't run, it's wine's fault. I'd try, but my ATI card doesn't work with beans.

i downloaded the game from http://www.positech.co.uk/kudos2/demo.html and run it with ubuntu wine 1.1.6 and it runs all ok. I have nvidia 8000 series laptop, new envy drivers. I played it on virtual desktop 1024 x 768, and I did nto experience any screen problems. Only thing was it crashed much later on the game. I played it with no virtual desktop and it played also.

It turns out that it's because of a quirk in the new Intel drivers for Ibex. I can work around the problem by turning off Compiz visual effects. I also need to reduce my screen resolution, but that, again, is a bug in the game.
