Cannot update wine from 1.6.2 to 1.7.51

Post by BlackOfJuly »

G'Day,

I ask for forgiveness in advance; I've been using Linux for a year now and am still new to some Linux issues.

Two weeks ago I reported what seemed like a bug to Bugzilla:

q7Error report received during installment process.
As quoted in the Summary, that's the window which pops up when I try to start the newly installed program ArcSoft PhotoImpression 6.0 for a slide/photo negative scanner. During the installing process, I've received the error message "backtrace" which I have included.
Is there anything to be done? Only SANE as well as simpleScan do not recognize the scanner.

Thank you very much in advance/eq

I received the advice to update to Wine 1.7.51 and try again. Sounded like a good idea, but now the new version won't install. I've eliminated every trace of the "old" wine 1.6 I could find, downloaded wine 1.7.15 from this site, tried running "wineinstall" in the terminal, and about a second later the terminal vanishes. At every other attempt the system tells me wine 1.7.15 cannot be found.
I'm at a loss...what can I do? I've installed 1.6.2 again and tried updating by sudo apt-get upgrade wine, some activity was going on in the terminal for some time, but I ended up still having the 1.6.2 version.

My Linux version is as follows:
Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon 32-bit
Cinnamon Version: 2.2.13
Linux-Kernel: 3.13.0-24-generic

Thank you
BOJ

I can't upgrade either. Ran ~$ sudo apt-get upgrade wine and the version was still 1.6.2.

Tried to upgrade manually under the direction of this page: http://www.binarytides.com/install-wine-debian-wheezy/
Tried to install libwine-dev-unstable_1.7.15-0.1_amd64.deb but got this error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libwine-unstable (= 1.7.11-0.1) and apparently alot of other people did too in the comment. Why is it so hard to upgrade?

AFAIK, there are no packages for the development releases for Wheezy. https://packages.debian.org/search?keyw ... evelopment
