Technically Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is not that old of a game. Point is I played it to death and have considered it very best the series. I was running Sam through one of the typical missions and was thinking how much fun it would be to play this in coop mode on LAN... Then it dawned on me, maybe I could.
First I tried running 2 processes of the same game in separate WINE prefixes but when I flipped the other would say Player A or Player B was not ready. I was about to give up on this when something clicked. The reason the other player was not ready is, the other game got minimized. It is impossible to play in window mode.
Using two desktops I ran this on desktop one;
WINEPREFIX="/home/simon/.wine-scct1" wine explorer /desktop=SC-One,800x600 '/media/Drive C/Splinter Cell CT/System/splintercell3.exe'
and on number 2 I ran;
WINEPREFIX="/home/simon/.wine-scct2" wine explorer /desktop=SC-Two,800x600 '/media/Drive C/Splinter Cell CT/System/splintercell3.exe'
I had to kill my joystick both agents used the same one LOL. Maybe you can use this idea for other games as well.
Have fun!
Worked like a charm. A great challenge too, if you are up to flipping screens.
Something fun I did with my old game.
