Fallout New Vegas laggs terribly

Post by zbrojny120 »

I'm using Steam version of Fallout New Vegas on Arch Linux with Gnome 3. I've tried running it on both Play On Linux and pacman package, both in 32-bin wineprefix. Menus work flawlessly, but when I load up the game, it laggs horribly (about 1-2 FPS). The strange thing is, that sometimes, when I load up a save where the character is inside a building, it works great, but when I open my PipBoy or exit the building it lags again, even if I get back to the starting position or load the same save again. There are no problems in other games (including TES4: Oblivion, which is built on the same engine as F:NV). Turning graphic settings to munimum doesn't change anything (framertate is not higher even by one FPS). I'm using proprietary GPU drivers. These are my specs:

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 (512MB)
CPU: Intel Pentium G840 2.8GHz
RAM: 4GB
Native Monitor Resolution: 1440×900

It worked great when this computer was running Windows.

Are you using any native dlls? If you are, try a clean wineprefix. One of the test reports in the AppDB says that installing native d3dx9 and vcrun6 caused a huge framerate drop. https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... ngId=88383

It gives the same results when installed on a clear wineprefix. Nothing has changed.

I finally found the solution. I had not only to create a new wineprefix, but also to disable Anti-aliasing. Anyway, thanks for your effort.
