Can regedit be used on an actual Windows registry?

Post by ToddAndMargo2 »

Hi All,

Can you boot from a Linux direct or Live USB/CD/DVD and use the "regedit" that comes with Wine to edit an actual Windows registry?

Many thanks,

No. Wine's registry is plain text, and that's all Wine's regedit is designed to work with. A real Windows registry is a binary file.

Bummer.

So far the only GUI based Linux registry editor I have found it the one that comes with Kaspersky's Rescue Disk. And that disk is mind numbing, stupefyingly, excruciatingly S-L-O-W

Oh well. Thank you for helping me with this.
