2014 Watchtower Library install to LinuxMint 17.1

Post by Brent2 »

Hello!
I'm currently running LinuxMint 17.1 Cinnamon (64bit). It is slick, fast, smooth plus many more positive adjectives! Ha! Ha! I also have Mandriva 2011 & Fedora 20.

I am new to Wine, as in the past I would just boot to Windows XP (MultiBoot desktop) to run any window programs. Now that Win XP is no longer supported I don't feel too secure using it so I am trying to keep most of my work on linux.

I had no problem loading up Wine 1.6.2. I read on the forums about installing the 2013 Watchtower Library to LinuxMint 1?. as being platinum or gold (IE: No problems installing). Well the new version 2014 Watchtower Library is now out and it seems to install to LinuxMint 17.1 with no hicups, but when I go to run it I get a Program Error (No details are given) advised to check application database.

I checked Wine config. I think everything is set right but then again I know nothing about Wine!!!!
Please if you have had success with this latest version of the 2014 Watchtower Library installing to LinuxMint 17.1
can you toss me a life saver. (HELP)

New Wine O

Try upgrading to the latest development release, and if that doesn't fix it, post terminal output. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log

I am running the newest versions of "The Watchtower Library" as well as the most current version of Linux Mint 17.1.
What I need to know is how I configure wine to run it step by step.
Weird thing happened I installed wine tricks now I can only see Winetricks in the menu. What happened to the other Wine options IE: Browse C drive, Configure wine etc.?
I will try to reinstall Wine 1.6.1 again....I will let you know what happens.

I have 1 more post ahead of this one asking for a step by step procedure on how to configure Wine for Re: 2014 Watchtower Library install to LinuxMint 17.1 (Both are the newest versions)
Now a new problem has poped up! Today I installed a new driver for my Nvidia Graphics card so I can get 2 seperate monitors working. No problem in doing that, I now have dual monitors with seperate views. However, when I checked out my menu Wine 1.6.1 (With all it's menu features are gone!) all that remains is Winetricks. So I went to the Software Manager it had Wine 1.6.1 available for install. So I clicked on it to install it AGAIN but I get the message that doing so will remove [ NVIDIA - LIBOPENCL-1-331]. I do not want to mess up my multiple monitor view or worse yet crash the entire OS.

So could someone talk me through installing Re: 2014 Watchtower Library install to LinuxMint 17.1 using just Winetricks?

Thanks

You are not running the newest version of Wine. That's what you need to upgrade.

Another reason to upgrade Wine. This has been reported fixed in the Ubuntu wine1.7 packages. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1320217

OK - I want to confirm the issue with Watchtower Library and give some debug info. I have Slackware-current as of 90/14 and wine-git as of today (20150120). Version number is 1.7.34

It installs fine, barfs ion start up. It looks like a process exits super quick (kernel kills it?) and everything else has the ladder pulled from under it. wine > file 2>&1 shows only this.

fixme:module:load_library unsupported flag(s) used (flags: 0x00000800)
fixme:advapi:RegisterTraceGuidsW (0xac8c72, (nil), {f7b697a3-4db5-4d3b-be71-c4d284e6592f}, 7, 0xe61fec, (null), (null), 0xecfd28): stub
wine: Unhandled exception 0x40000015 in thread 9 at address 0x30023:0x005fb454 (thread 0009), starting debugger...

I have tried a few of the standard WINEDEBUG options and am getting nothing meaningful. I will post a WINEDEBUG=all on my skydrive ASAP. It is small for an all debug. The link to the public directory is

This appears to be the essential part where the WT Library goes from starting up to shutting down from the 44 MB debug file in my last post. Slackware-current is 09/14 excuse the typo.
Wine-git as of yesterday There's a lot more killing and exiting happens, but it's like the processes all run over a cliff, and then realise they running on air.

If people want me to try anything else, please let me know. I was hoping they had upgraded the M$ visual C library, and a clever winetricks command would sort it. They do that occasionally. But I have the 2013 library beside it (which works fine) and can't spot much difference.

Thought I would let all know I have successfully got Watchtower library 2014 working on Mint 17.1 mate.
Just installed wine ppa and downloaded wine 1.7.

Hope this is helpful to you.

While I think of answering Brent.
You're into compiling and installing. If you get the url for the wine-git here:
http://wiki.winehq.org/GitWine#head-b89 ... 1128bb8a64

That will download the very latest developer code into a directory called wine. You can then make it like other packages cd wine; ./configure [OPTIONS] && make
I think there is also tools/wineinstall. Instructions in the README, & INSTALL files.

It's a good idea to remove the old wine first. You can leave ~/.wine
Then installing varies from distro to distro. I have slackware, and I use
make DESTDIR=/tmp/pack install , which leaves it all in a /tmp/pack directory. As root, I then cd to /tmp/pack and run makepkg ../wine-git-date.txz, and install the resulting slackware package. Some systems use rpmbuild, and others something in the apt-get package (Don't ask me what).

You can just run 'make instal' from the source tree, but it's better to do a package if you can. Make install is difficult to uninstall, and can overwrite libraries and such.

Interesting, but not helpful yet. What did it install out out of wine ppa?? I have wine-1.7.34 here and it barfs before the splash screen! (Slackware, & wine-git). did you install anything with winetricks?

I've been struggling with the same problem in Ubuntu. This finally worked:

Open a terminal. Copy & paste into it: sudo apt-get update
Press enter
when it completes copy and paste this: sudo apt-get install wine1.7
Press enter.

Don't know if this works for other distros but it worked for me.

Same issue here, Watchtower Library 2014, running LinuxMint 17.1 Cinnamon (64bit), Program Error, no details given. Obtained the Wine PPA (add ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa to software sources), uninstalled and reinstalled Wine, even deleted ~/.wine and installed wtlib again, no joy. But I noticed wine1.6 was still installed, which seemed odd, because I thought I'd updated everything.

So I uninstalled all wine packages (including wine1.6) and ran the following:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine1.7

All works now, didn't even have to reinstall Watchtower Library :). I don't know how much of that was necessary, I suppose I could have been missing the wine1.7 package somehow.

I now realize I already had replaced wine 1.4 with 1.6 and finally replaced that with 1.7. I tried to go direct from 1.4 to 1.7 on a friend's box and it didn't work. And yes, no need to reinstall WT library.

Watchtower Library 2014 is rated platinum in the AppDB by multiple users, which means all you should have to do is run the installer, the same as you would on Windows. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-f351523 ... 8da63be66f

I'll tell you how I do it. First, insert the disk. Then an icon should appear on your desktop saying "WTLIB14E".
Right click on it, left click on "open". A box should open. Look for "Setup.exe". right click on it, left click on "open with wine windows program loader". After that it should be just like Windoz.
