Wine running exceptionally slowly.

So I am attempting to run Morrowind using Wine. However, despite the games minimum requirements being way below what my system has, the game has low fps no matter what I do. I know that using wine has a snit of a slowdown, but I didn't think it would be this bad. The lag happens most when opening menus and turning the character. Is there any way to speed this up?
