Hi, I have a laptop with a corrupted windows 7 install and was wondering if I would be able to use wine to run the sfc /scannow on that. The computer boots flawlessly off the linux mint 17 live cd but windows will not boot into safe mode although it will boot 'normally' after about 60 minutes. Ive already backed up my critical files but if I can avoid a nuke I would like to. I've also used clamav to run to run one scan and found some stuff. I will be installing avast to rescan and using the ntfs progs package to scan the disk as well.
Is this possible? Will I need to put in dev/sda# format for the offbootdir and offwindir options or would I keep it as c: and c:/windows respectively? Sorry to have to post the question but thus far my google skills (and forum search skills) have failed me
Some apps will work when run from a Windows partition, but it's not a supported configuration. I doubt sfc will work in Wine at all, and even if it (seemingly) does, could make things worse. Wine is not designed to interact with a real Windows install.
Thanks for the prompt reply Do you know of any linux programs that would allow me to do this? I had been thinking of virtualbox to clone the win 7 install but I dont think Id have the disk space to do that :/
I don't know of any Linux tools that can repair a Windows install, and this is the wrong place to ask. You really should ask for help on a Windows forum.
