Lost Window of Full Screen Game

Hello!
I have run into an issue on a few different occasions now of completely losing a window of the game that I was playing (in this case Fallout 3, a full screen game) when opening something else, or interrupted by another program, or even taking a screen shot. It minimizes the game, but the sound is still going, and it's still running somewhere. Any attempt to reopen it from the Launcher tries to launch a new game, or brings up an error saying an instance of the game is already running. I've tried to switch windows, I've tried Alt-Tab... other programs show up but the game window disappears, and I have no choice but to end it through the System Manager.
Any suggestions?

Try running it in an emulated virtual desktop (set it on the Graphics tab in winecfg).

What window manager are you using?
