This is a super specific question, but hopefully someone will be able to answer it.
I am running LINE Messenger in Wine 1.6.2 on Ubuntu 14.04. The program is working like it should, however Thai characters are not showing. As I use this program to communicate almost exclusively with Thai friends, this is a bad thing.
Thai characters show up when I view them in gedit... so I'm relatively sure this is isolated to Wine, and not a system-wide problem. I have also made sure that the MS fonts package is already installed and up to date.
Any information to point me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Just as an update... I have already tried to run winetricks allfonts...

Have you tried starting the app with the appropriate LANG variable? http://wiki.winehq.org/TestingLanguages

Re: Language issue running LINE Messenger
This appears to address if I wanted the interface of the messenger to be in Thai language. This is not the desired effect. The interface needs to remain in English.
I receive messages in Thai language and currently those messages are showing up as a series of box '▯' characters.
Thai characters are displaying in my local Ubuntu installation... so I'm sure the issue is specific to Wine.

Try upgrading Wine to the latest development release.

This did not resolve the issue.
Re: Language issue running LINE Messenger
A fairly recent test in the AppDB mentions that vcrun2008 is needed. If you haven't installed it, try that. It also mentions that it is "important to have locales properly set up," so if you haven't actually tried the LANG variable, do so. https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... &iId=30569
If it still doesn't work after trying those two things, file a bug.
