Hi !
I have a Ducky Shine 3 DK9008 keyboard here is the firmware updater. If I run the exe file with WINE I get the firmware updater program. And It gives me the option to Cancel or to confirm (OK) and start updating the firmware.
Can I use WINE to update keyboards firmware ? Is there anything wrong if I do it with WINE ?
Using WINE to update keyboard firmware ?
Re: Using WINE to update keyboard firmware ?
The only way to find out if it will work in Wine is to try it, and that carries the possibility of bricking your hardware if something goes wrong. It's up to you to decide whether that's an acceptable risk.
Re: Using WINE to update keyboard firmware ?
b0f0 to be correct the odds of it working at all are extremely low. Wine has very poor hardware interface support.
Doing the firmware update from inside a virtual machine is also going to be a pain as you will require 2 keyboards. Why because the Ducky Shine 3 DK9008 keyboard will have to be passed straight threw to the virtual machine with the virtual machine in full control. Virtual machine I would be thinking about is one of the Microsoft VHD images for internet explorer for web developers to allow them to test their web pages. Yes you don't require a windows license to use these for short term things. Yes you were only testing how the Ducky Shine 3 DK9008 keyboard went with you web app so you had to update it excuse.
Using only open source Reactos inside a virtual machine would have the best odds of pulling off the update. Using either Wine or Reactos please do find out if the device is bricking proof. Some devices due to design no matter how badly you write the firmware you can always write a new copy and fix it this is a bricking proof device. Some devices a bad write of a firmware and its all over the device is dead forever this is bricked. Sorry I don't know the Ducky Shine 3 DK9008 keyboard for what class of device it is.

Re: Using WINE to update keyboard firmware ?
Thank you both for your suggestions and answers. I also wrote an email to support department of Ducky Shine 3 keyboard and they say
and they also said...we are not entirely sure if WINE will work...
. The keyboard is expansive so I dont want to destroy it buy doing something I shouldnt do. So I will find someone with windows and update the firmware for the keyboard on his/her computer. Thou it would be rely cool to do it with WINE, but I am too afraid of braking the keyboard. Thank you again for the reply. I hope if some is looking for the same answer he/she will get it from this topic.....but I do know that someone has successfully updated the firmware with virtual machines.
