Hi all,
I just installed Sketchup on my pc, and got the message above.
I am not sure how to go on from here, so I thought, let's ask the experts.
My video card is: Asus EAX1650Pro gamer edition.
I run: Ubuntu 6.04.01 desktop amd 64.
I am desperate, because I am working on a project, and can't continue.
Thanks in advance,
Bram

First Make sure that OpenGL is working in Native LinuxI am not sure how to go on from here, so I thought, let's ask the experts.
My video card is: Asus EAX1650Pro gamer edition.
I run: Ubuntu 6.04.01 desktop amd 64.
May Be u need to install Correct Graphics Driver for ur
Hardware. I also faced similar problem and in my case
I installed a correct graphics Driver.
Simple test for OpenGL is to test with OpenGL screensavers
(This is to best my Knowledge).
Once OpenGL is Working Natively on Linux
Do Sketchup Installation and It works.
Mine is KUbuntu 8.0.4.1, wine 1.1.3
I have done some settings after install but
I dont remember them exactly. Hope I could search
them and post again
Thanks and Best Regards

The "cannot initialize opengl" is bug
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14045
The workaround is to set a registry key to tell sketchup your graphics card is ok.
See
http://wiki.winehq.org/GoogleSketchup
for more tips.
Caveat: your Asus EAX1650Pro graphics card is ATI-based,
and I haven't heard any success stories yet running Sketchup on ATI graphics cards.
Also, your OS (Ubuntu 6.06) is awful old, and probably has very outdated
opengl drivers. You may have better luck with Ubuntu 8.10.
Let us know how it goes!

Dan, shouldn't that go to AppDB not wiki?DanKegel wrote:[Replying to a post from September...]

I agree that the appdb is in general the place to link to.
That wiki page links to the appdb, so it's almost what you wanted.
I created that wiki page because I'm on a tear
trying to find every post anywhere that complains
about sketchup and wine, and the appdb URLs are
so ugly I was afraid of intimidating people by posting them.
There was a proposal, and even a working prototype,
for friendlier appdb URLs, but it hasn't been put into practice yet.
Also, the appdb doesn't have a HOWTO section for the app
in general, only for the versions, and I kind of wanted a
common landing page. I suppose we could add one in the appdb.
Finally, the appdb pages themselves are somewhat intimidating.
Not sure what to do about that; it would be a lot of work to design
and implement something cleaner.
So -- if every once in a while I pick a product to focus on, and make
a wiki page about it to give a better user experience than the appdb
can -- please cut me a little slack.
Thanks!
