Colin McRae Rally 2005: Cannot configure wheel

I thought CMR2005 was running OK, but that was only when using the keyboard. With my wheel (Logitech Momo) I find that steering is almost impossible. I expected some setting up to be needed. But any configuring I do is useless, because my changes are not saved, and so have no effect (even in the same session.)

The odd thing is that my other driving simulator, Richard Burns Rally, needs no configuring for the same wheel. It works well out of the box, so to speak.
