Dead Space 3 Crashes at Game Start

Post by jahrew »

So I installed DS3 and wine 1.6.* and the game launches and everything but when I try to play the game it crashes just before I get into the actual game. It shows snow and a visceral logo and the DS3 logo then crash. I can still hear sound but video freezes. I tried turning the graphics settings all the way down and updated my system. Any help would be great.

My Specs
Intel G2020
AMD Radeon HD 7790 (running catalyst 13.12 driver, 14.2 causes problems)
8gb RAM
Linux Mint 15

In winetricks I set it to Win 7, and using dx11.

Hi @jahrew,

How did you "install" Dead Space 3 ( argghh the usual "miracle step" for people asking for support  )? Is it the Steam version of DS3 you are running? Since quoting from Wikipedia...
The retail PC version of Dead Space uses SecuRom copy protection as seen in the other EA PC titles Spore and Mass Effect, which requires online authentication.[36] Previously it limited the number of times a user could install the game to five; however, in April 2009 the company released de-authorization tools which afford an unlimited number of installs.[37] The Steam and Impulse versions do not have this DRM.
Have you looked at the AppDB for Dead Space 3 (non-Origin version)??
See everyone is using Nvidia cards there of course...

Make sure you have the 32-bit libraries installed for fglrx.

If you're still stuck post some console output here or at somewhere civilised (like pastie) if there's a lot.
