Strangest and weirdest problem ever!

Post by Cygoku »

I am rather new to Linux. I started using it full time with Ubuntu GG the day it was released. So far I was using Wine to be able to use a single program. Lately, I started thinking I could use Wine for emulation. Either it's Final Burn Alpha, Demul or any emulators, my screen gets corrupted.

Can you see the problem? Not at all I guess. Now take a look at the next picture. I had to take a picture with my digicamera to show you the full extent of my problem.

Here is my current setup :

Wine 1.1.3
Laptop Dell Inspiron 6400
ATI Radeon Mobility X1400
Catalyst 8.8 (1280x800)

I hope anybody can hint me at solutions. If you need any log, tell.

Both links are the same picture and I see no obvious problem with that picture.

The two links lead to the same picture, but from your description I'd say the problem is very probably this one: http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1173

I have corrected my first post linking to the correct image. Will try to read other post and information I got from second post.

I hope this can be fixed without dowgrading to Catalyst 8.5!

Are you running compiz? Go to the terminal and do the following command ...

$ metacity --replace

Then try the program again and see if you still get the same problem.

Yes, even with Compiz off, the problem remains.

Sorry to have to break this. Metacity -replace does not work stably to stop compiz.

Stop compiz from running at all then restart X11. Any other way leaves behind problems.
