Netflix-Desktop and Wine 1.7.10 (Silverlight Issue)

Post by TechnoJunky »

I've been running the Netflix-Desktop on my Mint 14 box, with Wine 1.4.1 for a while. A week or two ago, I noticed that Firefox and Steam wouldn't work anymore, but Netflix was fine. Yesterday I updated to Wine 1.6.1 (stable), it fixed my Firefox issue, and after reinstalling Silverlight, Netflix worked again, but Steam didn't. I found a post that said that Steam wouldn't work with anything older than 1.7.8. So I upgraded Wine again to 1.7.10. Now Firefox and Steam work but Netflix won't. It comes up and when I select a movie it says I need to install Silverlight. I do, it says it was successful, but Netflix still says I need to install it. WHen I look in Firefox plugins, it says I have Silverlight 5.1.20913.0. And yes, it's the Windows version of Firefox.

Netflix has never worked in plain Wine. There was a patched version floating around in which it worked, and that is probably what you had before. It is not supported here.

Your best bet for Netflix is Pipelight (also not supported here). https://launchpad.net/pipelight
