Missing sdbinst.exe

Post by robin4 »

Hi, I have been trying to install GOG version of Settlers 4 on my mac using wine. When I run the setup exe the installation starts and gets part way through before displaying the following error.

Unable to execute file
sdbinst.exe

ShellExecuteEx failed; code2.
File not found

At this point the installation finishes. It looks like the game has been installed and I can launch the game by running S4.exe from the Settlers 4 folder that has been created in the C drive. However, it makes me wondered if some part of the installation has not completed. I tried to google the problem without much luck. For some reason the sdbinst.exe appears to be missing from the System32 folder, which is why I see the error during the installation. I wondered if anyone else has this problem? Or any idea how I can fix it?

I'm fairly new to Wine, I have used Wine once or twice in the past on Linux. I understand I can use Winetricks to add features/missing dlls, can I use Winetricks to get sdbinst.exe? Maybe someone could explain what I can use Winetricks for?

Thanks, Robin
