Hi there, I need to use Microsoft CRM for my work, and it requires IE version 6, 7 or 8. I've tried using all of them, and I do manage to log in, but after I log in once and the page is already loading, the dialog box of the username/password keeps coming up over and over. Also, the pages of the Microsoft CRM don't really load well, they're missing huge chunks of the page which are crucial to the working process.
Is there any way to use this service other than resorting to a Windows installation?
Microsoft CRM and Wine
Re: Microsoft CRM and Wine
IdoSC you should be able to use Firefox or Chrome.

Yes there is a browser compatibility update. IdoSC so there should be no need for internet explorer. If the update has not been applied time to get IT staff to work. Firefox runs way better in wine than internet explorer. There is even a chance with compatibility installed you will not need wine and just be able to get away with a useragent switcher.

Re: Microsoft CRM and Wine
I'm just a volunteer in this company so I can't really get the IT staff to work, unfortunately. And I've already tried the user agent solution, unfortunately it didn't work either (the page doesn't load, only its background does).
Re: Microsoft CRM and Wine
IdoSC it would still be worth mentioning the update.
This is why I said should be able to. You are either using a very old of MS CRM or you are using one that needs updates.
A cause of this issue could be outsourced IT not deploying stuff. The update Rollup include security updates.Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Update Rollup 12 or the December 2012 Service Update

Re: Microsoft CRM and Wine
As I said in my previous posts, I am forced to use a very old Microsoft Dynamics CRM and I have no means to contact the IT staff in this company. Do you have any solution for the end-user, i.e. finding a way to run it with Internet Explorer through Wine, rather than a solution for the IT staff?

Microsoft does provide system images for website testing.
https://github.com/xdissent/ievms
Yes there is an installer for them on to Linux. These will work perfectly. This is not piracy either. For all we know the page might be broken in particular versions of IE as well.
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... ion&iId=25 Internet explorer support in wine is hit and miss. Also internet explorer from wine can be very confusion to web sites due to the fact parts can end up replaced with Mozilla gecko parts and other non Microsoft replacements.
IdoSC I would try windows firefox and chrome in wine. I have had a few Microsoft things where chrome works where firefox on Linux fails.
I have found chrome surprising. If it upto date windows firefox or windows chrome should work.
IdoSC there is a reason why I have been saying talk to the IT tech staff. There is a nasty little reality that wine Internet Explorer historically has crashed full company websites due to its strangeness. Better to talk to them before they are on the war path looking for who ever broke their site.
IdoSC you are only a volunteer I guess you would not be authorized to try random items against the site. This is something people make a big mistake with. Some countries this can be a very big legal problems. Its safer to ask first then do.

Re: Microsoft CRM and Wine
So I checked it with my supervisor and it seems they use Dynamics CRM version 4.0. Is there any browser-compatibility update for that version?
Re: Microsoft CRM and Wine
IdoSC sorry that is what you call buggered.
http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/ ... r=FilterNO mainstream support ended this year for Dynamics CRM 4.0. So its now into 5 year extended. Microsoft will not be adding or improving the browser support in Dynamics CRM 4.0 any more. Great fun new version of windows internet explorer might malfunction with it as well. Support in Dynamics CRM 4.0 is bad for anything under IE 8 or past IE 9.
Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 is good for browser support CRM 4.0 is trash for browser support. They are only 1 version apart.
http://community.dynamics.com/crm/b/crm ... ndent.aspx 2013 is tested with android and chrome. So chrome on Linux does work in the newer version.
Do remember my warning don't point internet explorer in wine at it without approval. Dynamics CRM 4.0 is not the most fault tolerant beast. Yes it one of the items I was worried about.
Sugercrm and other crms have been popular with other companies due to Dynamics issues.
IdoSC if they did acquire it by volume license they need to check what there current allowed version is. Some will find they have free upgrade to 2011 or 2012. I have been dealing with not for profit on and off. All of those got free upgrades when the browser compatibly patches came out.
If where you are is a for profit boy is Microsoft unfriendly.
