I need help uninstalling Wine

Post by DanNeedsHelp »

Hey there,

I downloaded Wine today but now I don't think I need it so I'm trying to delete it from my computer. I'm using MAC OS 10.6.8. When I try to delete the Wine application in my Finder, i get a message saying that Wine is open and can't be moved to the trash. I tried using the uninstaller, which I ran with Wine, but no programs come up to be added or removed. So I'm at a bit of a loss as to what I should do.

Can someone please help me delete Wine? Thanks!

Wine doesn't come like that at all... you must be using some 3rd party program that uses Wine. You need to tell us how you got Wine, or go to the correct forum for the program your actually using. There are several programs that use Wine, but normal Wine supported here have no wine application you can delete like that... its all command line only.

I should have mentioned that it was WineBottler from http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/ The application comes up in my finder as just Wine though.

Wine.app that comes with WineBottler is just part of WineBottler... the confusion happens a lot, and it really shouldn't have been named Wine. Its technically not supported here.

I have no idea how WineBottler really works... but you should be able to just trash the app(s), and also look for Wine related files hidden in your home folder (~/.wine) as well as in your ~/Library/Caches folder, and possibly other place... might be best to get help from WineBottler support to know.

Its possible you have some stuck processes though. You can try a restart, telling it NOT to open applications again on restart... then see if things can delete ok.

I managed to find the solution. There was an icon at the top of my screen next to the clock and battery information for my Mac. Clicking on the icon for Winebottler allowed me to close out of it and then delete the program.

Thanks for all your help!
