DVDFab won't install on x86_64

Post by wchouser3 »

Greetings,

I get this error message when I attempt to install DVDFab on Manjaro Linux x86_64. It installs just fine on Manjaro i686. When I attempt it on a 64 bit os I get the following error:

access violation at address 0040ec22 in module 'DVDFab9060.exe'. Write of address 00400000

As I said, this is only when I attempt the install on a 64 bit OS. I have another Identical machine, running the i686 version of Manjaro, and it installs and runs flawlessly.

Please Help!

Thanks

Try installing to a 32 bit wineprefix. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#32_bit_wineprefix

Well, see....you're probably going to think this sounds really dumb, but I copied the executable file to the home directory (that way it would have a shorter path to type out in the terminal) this is the first time I tried it from the terminal. I didn't think it would make a difference. Normally, I simply right click on the .exe and choose "Wine Windows Program Loader."

oh....you know what....as I sit here and type this, It just came to me. My downloads folder sits on a partition I share with my Wife's Windows partition. I've got that partition marked "noexec" on the fstab. Now I feel really dumb. Well, now you have another possible solution if another idiot like me has a similar problem...lol

Anyway...thank you for your help...I feel smarter, and dumber; simultaneously.

Just for information, the exactly same issue happens if you try to install DVDFab having the windows DVDfab9nnn.exe in a softlinked directory (i.e ~/download -> ~/data/download... for example).
