Newbie on Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS here. Been trying to get Dragon Age: Origins to work for some time now, and I've realized that I'm not the only one. Since I haven't been able to find anyone else with the same error, I thought I'd make a post about it.
I installed the game (1.0) and DirectX with wine (1.4) and the game claimed it couldn't find the DVD. After some googling, I found out that this was becuase wine can't/won't access the disc, so I (shamefully) downloaded and applied a crack. Here's where the real trouble started. Almost every animation and texture in the game, including the backgrounds and icons of the menus, are replaced by black/gray boxes. I've tried different cracks, different versions of the game and downloaded countless dll's and drivers. No change. Also, the Launcher won't start, but that isn't too much of a bother except that it might imply some other error. I'll add the Terminal output from when I start the game below.
